9090DB upgraded ?

Hi,

I think my 9090DB have been upgraded in the past.

I frequently see for sale on ebay:

"Used" main filter caps (Nippon-Chemicon) 12000uf / 80V taken from a 9090DB.

Mine have larger Elna's

Others are also differents compared to images i have seen. (All principal filtering caps are Elna's instead of Nippon-Chemicon)

Am i right ?

At least,i can tell that it sounds very good.

I'm sure it's stock. Modified would have used higher values and they look like mine that I recently restored.

Sansui used Nichicon, Elena and Nippon Cemcon caps interchangeably. Yours is definitely stock.

Later units had the Elna's.

I think the later units had the Elna's. I have never noticed any difference in stock cap size, no matter what brand was used.

This ongoing restoration, S/N 82712xxxx, is a late build also.
This unit sounds excellent in stock condition from a CD. I have noticed with other restorations, that upgrading to 15000 super through caps improves FM listening. Probably just better filtering, maybe someone know for sure?

The Japanese electronics companies bought hundreds of thousands of electrolytic caps. Sansui and the other used cheap general purpose caps and bought them from whomever provided the best price. Don't get too caught up in what brand they are. It makes no difference in the sound.
