Thanks! That thing on top is my TX500U tuner, which I've been holding onto for ... gulp,
6 years just so I could use them together.
Your comment made me curious so I took some measurements with my IR thermometer. I measured the cover itself, which I figured would be the best thumb in the wind to see how much having the tuner on top would affect temps. I waited ~1.5 hours between measurements. Radio playing at the same low-ish volume the whole time. (All temps in F.)

So, the biggest difference is above the 22V Power Supply. That thing looked real toasty when I removed it. When I put the new resistors in, I spaced them ~1cm up from the board, so hopefully that's helping. Not sure how hot the actual board is, if the cover above it is 100 degrees. Probably pretty hot if that tiny little board is heating the cover up to 100!
Above the heat sinks, not much of a difference having the tuner on top or not. This may be because the tuner is pretty short, so it only covers around half of the top of the A1000 when sitting there. Hot either way!
Luckily I have enough room on my Barzilay to sit the tuner next to the A1000, so that's how I'll keep it!
