A and b speakers not working together

Hi so I have a Sony gx99es and when I plug a speaker into the a channel and turn it on it works but if I put the speaker into the b channel it also works. But if I plug a speaker into a or b respectively and put the a+b switch on it doesn’t work. Do I need to have speakers both a and b for that to work or is my amp broken? I only tested it with one speaker to see if they worked but I could put speakers in all the jacks? Let me know what I’m son t wrong just don’t want to setup a whole system with all the wires for it to not work with a and b

I have not looked at the schematic. But, from what you describe it sounds like that receiver/amp puts the A and B speakers in series when A+B is selected.

So, in such case where A+B is a series connection, A+B won't work unless you have speakers connected to A and to B terminals.
 
Oh okay thank you so much so I should plug speakers into both a and b and see if it works if you have more information with this schematic I would love to hear but I will try that tomorrow
 
Even if you have only two speakers you could confirm using a temporary arrangement by connecting one speaker to A left and one speaker to B left, then select A+B.

If both speaker make sound then it's confirmed A+B is series.
 
Is there a speaker selector switch on the Sony?
If there is an A + B option then both sets should work at the same time.
I think.
 
I do know that my Sony 5650, and possibly 4650, do put A+B in series. But can't you just hook up both to A, then move both to B? If A & B work separately, they'll work together. It's just a switch.

If A+B is a series arrangement then you will not get any sound in the A+B setting unless there are speakers connected to both A and B.

The OPs problem is he put the switch in A+B but only had speakers connected to A or to B, not A and B. To get sound when A+B is series, you have to have speakers connected to A and B, not A or B.

Yup. That part I got. I think what I missed is that the OP wanted to specifically test if the A+B switch position worked. My bad.
