A kind soul...

sans-culotte

A kind soul in my department where I work just gave me a Technics SA-505 receiver and a set of EPI Model 100 Speakers. Everything is in original boxes too.
I was told that the receiver has a channel out on it. I also popped the covers off of the speakers and the foam around the woofers is cracked and crumbling but, I repeat: FREE! I am probably going to try my (clumsy) hands at refoaming. Already checked out an old thread here where some other folks refoamed their EPI 100s. Lots of good advice.

Sounds like a nice set up. I am pretty clumsy myself, and my refoaming is never a thing of beauty, but it usually works well enough. As for the receiver, I think about 50% of all receivers more than five years old have a channel out. Sometimes it just takes some cleaning of the pots. Sometimes it is a broken solder or something else. Lots of threads on this site discussing this. Usually there is a solution.

Good luck!

A kind AKer Madhattter gifted me a Sansui G-8000. I had it rehabbed by CDFixer. I will be forever grateful. :thmbsp:

Like I say, "Ya can't beat "free". I think the speaker re-foam will be a good way for me to ease my way into things. We all start somewhere, right?

That's great!!!!
I just got a receiver that the left channel was not working, it ended up that a fuse was blown.
Only accessible if you took the cover off.
