A-L Stonehenge help

I'm looking at a pair of Stonehenge one's. Any pros and cons would be helpful. They are in very good shape and seem to priced at the going rate.

Thanks,

I always loved the Stonehenge line. In the store where I worked, we carried the Altec line but always had problems getting stock on the Stonehenge stuff. We did stock the Stonehenge I's for quite a while as the cabinet's tall nature kept it from many living rooms back then.

Frankly, they sounded very good - but not outstanding over anything else in the store. It used a rather standard phenolic tweeter with an Altec woofer/crossover.

At their age now, I would expect to do some work on the crossover and, perhaps, the woofer to get them going again but nothing major unless there are tears in the woofer cone.

Check around the bases for wear and tear and examine the tweeter to ensure the cone's outer edge has not separated from the basket - a common problem with them.

Given my 'druthers, I'd be looking seriously at chucking the tweeter and doing a Econo-wave mod. See the Mega-thread here for details about that.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. These speakers are in excellent condition. He also has a Sansui G-8000...also in excellent shape. I may just shoot him a price for both. amd see if he goes for it.
