A little help with my TD 124.

Today I put a record on my turntable and was looking at the strobe to make sure the speed was where it needed to be. Couldn’t see any of the little black rectangles that allow you to use the dial to get the speed perfect. It’s been around 3 or 4 years since I’ve had this table apart. I took the lens off and cleaned the mirror and the lens but no help. Any of you guys have any thoughts. It worked fine the last time I used it.

Probably your little neon tube. maybe your mirror has shifted? I have had my TD 125 for so long that I may have forgotten what TD 124 looks like for sure.

After thinking about it for a few minutes I think I need to make sure the eddy brake is working properly. If not it’s letting the TT run so fast it’s not possible to see the speed control. I can’t think what would cause this from the last time I used the table.

I did pull the platter off. That’s the only way you can get the lens off. I’ll check it out tomorrow. Probably time to take it apart and clean and lube things.

I doubt this is it, but might be worth mentioning. I have a big bay window next to my rack. When the curtains are open and it's very bright outside (like now with sunshine and lots of snow), I can't see the dots. The strobe just isn't bright enough to compete with huge amounts of ambient light.

Looks like the eddy brake adjustment is not working. Does anyone have a number for clearance between the brake and the pulley? Guess I’m going to get the table out of the plinth.

Surely you'd hear that playing music?

I’ve got to get into it more. Later on today I’ll get the turntable out of the plinth and see if I can figure it out. Thanks for the help.

So, I had a chance to get my turntable out of the plinth this morning and all the mechanical stuff seems fine. I think I need a new strobe bulb or resistor or both so I ordered the kit from Jim Campbell. The bulb that was in there is the original I think, it was a Phillips bulb made in Holland, which would make it about 60 years old. The bulb was only lighting up about 1/4 of the way around it. Hopefully this kit will get me going again.

Got my turntable fixed up. Replaced the bulb, the resistor, the mirror and the lens. Thanks to Jim Campbell for the prompt shipment of the parts I needed. I think it was a combination of resistor and bulb that was causing the problem.
