A modern receiver for JBL 4312s

I would like to use my JBL 4312 speakers for my Entertainment System TV.
My space is limited and I don't have room for a large receiver.
Does anyone out there recommend a modern receiver that would pair nicely with these speakers?
I keep seeing modern receivers for anywhere from $50 to 200 used.
My budget for new would be about $600 maximum

I have never really been pleased running most vintage speakers with a modern surround receiver, but I have only tried my Yamaha surround receiver, and a couple Sony's I have had. I'm sure it would be your ears that can best answer that though.
 
Yamaha and Onkyo both make some decent stereo receivers for $600 or less. You can always check out Crutchfield or MusicDirect and search for receivers under $600.
 
The Yamaha R-N 402 and R-N602 strereo receivers have the ability to receive AM/FM, internet and Bluetooth plus they have digital inputs. The 602 has a subwoofer out and phono input for $600, the 402 skips those two features and sells for $400. The 602 will handle 4 ohm speakers and the 402 is recommended for 8 ohm speakers.

I own the 402 and the sound is clean and clear!

That's kinda vague,IMO this really needs clarification before the thread goes too much further.
(ie: Just how large is too large ?)

If you're looking for a 5.1/7.1 receiver, then a Marantz might be good for you.

Main thing is it has all kinds of hookup doodads including Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, and internet radio. However, mine also has Audyssey EQ, which is very helpful when tailoring the sound for speakers that were voiced in a different era.

Mine was a factory refurb SR 5008 and it was less than your asking price.
 
Thanks for your input guys, I ended up using some of my existing gear.
A Pioneer SA 9100 amp to Wharfedale SS3 speakers.

That's a very nice integrated and great looking piece!

Make sure it gets enough breathing room in there.
 
It works but sounds like crap .
I swapped the Wharfedale s33's for Tannoy C8's and still has lots of distortion.
I might try some higher wattage speakers until I suspect the amp
 
A bit late, but if you are still looking for a new AV receiver that pairs really well with vintage speakers I can recommend an NAD T748. Absolutely no bells and whistles. Just a fantastic surround receiver that pays a lot of attention to the stereo circuit, with a stereo bypass circuit. I was looking for an AV receiver without all the concert hall church organ club Mormon Tabernacle Choir crap that is "featured" on most AV receivers that I have found for under $1000. I picked up the T748 and have been really happy with it. I've used both AR-4x and Dynaco A25s as my front speakers, knowing that they would mostly be used for music. The system sounds great and does surround duty with aplomb.

I was also running the NAD with a pair of PSB Image 4Ts for a while. That system rocked. I just prefer the sound and look of the old speakers now.

Bear in mind that this is in a small room. My living room is approx. 11x12 ft.
