G'day friends..
A while back ,under the thread title of ' Baby Wharfedales ' ,I showed photos of two cabinets that I bought.
In each cab are a Wharfedale Super 5 and a Super 3 (facing upwards) .
At a suggestion by Gangtwanger... I'm going to build 2 seperate cabinets and fit them with a single Wharfedale 12" woofer and end up with cabs for the woofers and sit the 'Baby Wharfedales on top of these ..
There's a pair of 12" Red Alnico Wharfedales from W 70 cabinets for sale here in OZ ..
Do y'all think these would be OK for this project ? .. I want to use Wharfedale drivers...would there be any other Wharfedale drivers that could be better for my project ?

Those 12's are probably from the same general time period as the smaller units you already have so should be a good match. Now the questions of crossovers and port or sealed for the 12's are going to need to be addressed. Very interesting project. Hope you will keep us informed during your adventure.
 
Thanks for your input gentlemen...I've just bought the Red Magnet Wharfies.
Like you say,next items to deal with are the crossover networks and the cab design..
Seems as though I'll need the TS parameters to be able to design these items.
Where would I find these Parameters .. anyone know ?
Also,I'll be OK with building the cabinets... but the crossover network is beyond me..
Would anyone here at Audio Karma be up for building the crossovers for me ?

The speakers will need to go to someone with the experience and equipment to measure the T&S parameters and at the same time thoroughly check them over.There are many variations in the Wharfedale models and given the broad time scale of manufacture,that is your best option.
 
Anyone know if Wharfedale might have used all three of those speakers in a single three way set up ??? W60 or earlier model perhaps??? If so maybe one could get size and crossover stats from that model as a starting point???
T&S info might be difficult because I vaguely recall that Wharfedale had a big fire back in the day that destroyed a huge portion of their older records and data.
 
The Super 5 was intended to be used as a tweeter used from 1kHz upwards,but there was a Bronze magnet version used in conjunction with the Super 3 in the British models of the early 1960's.Namely the W3,which used the WL/12 bass speaker.the W4 used two 5''Bronze speakers with the same woofer.
 
Wharfedale Wireless Works Ltd., did not measure speakers for the T&S parameters and like everyone else in that period only offered basic technical information,all of which is still available in one form or another.The only fire that I am aware of was at the premises of their main cone supplier.The valuable moulds for the early FS and CS cones were destroyed and consequently the supply of exact replacement cones ceased.
