A Newbie's Remorse? - 6060 -

You will like the 6060. You won't think about the money at all. I have a 4000 and a 6060. I want to find or at least hear an 8080 or 9090 but they will have to really sound good to beat either of the two models I already own. Enjoy it!

What you will find is that unless you really have the acoustics and room space to enjoy the extra watts, you will only drive the big boys to 40-50 watts anyway. You'll find that out when you finally get one, that's why I guess we're all letting you know that the Sansui XOXO and much of the G-series stuff is exceptional. And....for the most part, the audio specs and the "Sansui" sound is experienced with any of these models, including the 5050 and 6060.
Now, if you have the space and some great speakers with heavy duty woofers, then by all means.....8080 / 9090 / 9090DB / G-7500 / G-9---, I am salivating!
Enjoy your 6060 - focus and notice the deep sound and the fact that clipping and distortion on a healthy Sansui is almost non-existent! Great Receiver!

I have 170 watts per in the living room, never use more than 20.
Why then? Because I can, and I love music, and I still have a little room in the house, and I'm impulsive, and I love old gear, and I couldn't afford it in 1972, and I have to do something for a hobby right?

I guess with the outpouring of response you can feel good that you bought a nice piece. Hope seller packs it well as it is a heavy little guy.
I bought one last winter and it sounds fantastic..........Just needed some tuner aligning. ....and the tuner knob has that "ten-pound-feel" so you can send it across the dial with one little flick of the wrist.

The x0x0 series is my favorite as far as Sansui receivers go. I had a 7070 and loved it, have regretted selling it for a while. One thing you may consider is to have a technician adjust the bias or offset or both, to make sure it is operating correctly, and make sure the caps are all sound. Too often, folks make a false impression of vintage gear as much gear isn't operating properly when they get it.
This is why you see higher prices paid for the gear that has been refurbished.
Good luck, let us know how it sounds, and post a pic if the spirit moves...

So how many of these so many units come from refurbished sellers - or did you, like me, take your chances on mystery items? Be honest now.
It sounds like most are happy with what they get.
And last thing, I have been looking for a Tech in Atlanta, a pretty big place here, but none found so far. All equal, local is good I think.

If you prefer to buy vintage "restored" gear, eBay won't be the place to find it. I have bought some good stuff on eBay, but pretty much played the patience game and watched the feedback from the experts here on AK - belive me prety much any Sansui unit that is functional can be brought up to snuff right up to fully restored by the people on this site - you will pay top dollar but you will be blown away by a fully restored Sansui receiver - so.... the moral of the story is, buy low on eBay and don't buy into "serviced' " fully checked out" "checked out by a certified technician", You are far better off buying a unit that works, networking with the guys on this site, and eventually biting the bullet and having a higher end sansui piece of gear restored. You will not regret it!
