I walked into a local shop to see about buying some speakers, used and vintage gear is all he does. We were talking about equalizers and he mentioned the old Radio Shack EQ demo curve. He flicked the cutout button on one of them. We laughed. Remember that trick? Crank the bass and treble, cut the mids. “Boy howdy, she really cooks! I’ll take two.” He was a good salesman. Has me thinking about all sorts of stuff I shouldn’t buy right now… power conditioner, different phono preamp, speaker match box… Sansui 5050… nothing ever changes!
Realistically, though (pun intended), I did walk out of there having bought a set of the ‘90s Infinity RS2 bookshelf monitors. I like them, they did a lot more than I thought they would for the money and footprint. For the record, I already have a Ratshack 31-2010 EQ in the stack. And still have the STA-76A. I like their stuff.
