Gang-Twanger
Resident Wharfedaliophool
Now that I'm back from Maine, I wanted to post a public thank you to AK'er jgannon, who gifted me a pair of very-nice high-voltage 12uF oil caps recently, which will go in my alnico-loaded W60's. I already posted a couple new videos on YouTube of my W60's, which still have the original 50 year old electrolytic caps in them. They should be completely-dead by now, but somehow it doesn't stop the W60's from sounding great. It's the weirdest thing. The cone-tweeters sound like they're running open/full-range, and yet they sound great. No noticeable frequency bumps or distortion. I've had them cranked up loud many a time over the past two years, but they don't sound like they're being overstressed at all (Check out this video to hear what I mean: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=qxPljs82Xgw ). Still, I didn't want to risk it anymore. I want them recapped proper, and the early W*0 models sound best with oil caps.
Anyway, thanks again to jgannon for sending me a pair of oil caps free of charge... It was a big help, especially considering the fact that I had just spent $900 on the Fisher 800C restoration and had to float a bill or two in order to cover it. There are some truly-generous, selfless folks here on AK, and it is something I appreciate dearly.
