well i keep a eye out for any thing transmission line as i feel "if it ain't transmission line its not worth the trouble" lol ,
by the way thats one of my own quotes ,ive got some surrounds coming for the woofers ,one of the tweeters needs work but i happen to have one hanging a round ,think its a ad160 or some thing like that

i dont take notice of phillips gear so this is a frist for me ,but im impressed with the build,
how ever i do think my kefs are streets ahead ,but i will find out once i have them up and running

they would be about 20-25 kg each so i have always went with heavy is good ,heavy is a sign of reliable ,
and they are heavy ,but phillips lol

how do you think they will compear to the dm2a's?
mike

Mr New Zealand you find some interesting stuff . I would love to hear those. Phillips made some great drivers were the drivers made in Denmark? do you have product # on the back of the drivers? The reason I am asking is I was talking to a 71 year old tech the other day. We got onto the subject of IMF speakers he told me he blew a woofer in a TLS 80 . And phoned IMF and they said that the 139 was no longer avalible and told him about a phillips woofer that would match up well with the TLS 80 . He couldn't recall the woofer though ...

I've never seen anything like these. For as far as I know Phlips never made transmissionline speakers, and the drivers don't look like any Philips I know. Could you check what drivers these are? The dome tweeter looks damaged, so you'd have to unscrew it anyway... ;)

Well for now I run the 5150b with my sansui au 11000 as a preamp hooked up to my Infinity RSIIS listen to this combo when Ive got time to sit in one spot ive got three kids so limited on that but when I do get the time it is breath taking . For lounging around music I run the au11000 with my energy 22 this is a great combo to me I like music on all the time.....Transmission lines Ive had a few of the smaller stuff nothing serious like what you and canuck run .I have had the pleasure of hearing canucks British speaker museum he has going opened my ears to these big T-lines love to hear your system those are some sweet looking speakers....How do your Kef T-lines compare to your DM 2s man I would like to hear those also....

Phillips drivers were used in T-lines by many DIY over the years.

I can't tell by seeing the photo if a line exists?
The enclosure is not very deep for a T-line design.

It is better for T-lines to have the first section of the line deep behind the driver before the first fold to prevent reflections on the rear of the cone.

its like no T L i have seen ,it has a main division and it appears that it has a cavity behind that at about 75mm,so the first section is very large compared to the second section, the out let is is slightly smaller then the opening into the second division
its a very crude design i think but i bet its better then any other philips speakers i have seen
has a stamp inside saying 2-4-81 so i guess thats the date but maybe not ?

do you want a pic of the inside of the enclosure?ill try but might be tricky

looks more like the 1/8 wave t-lines some british speaker built into a couple of their bookshelf models..

stil a very nice find!

hmmm whats a 1/4 and 1/8 wave design mean as i like my big transmission lines i use and they have nothing on them to tell

the phillips say 1/4 wave on them which is in the pics
woofer surrounds came today so over the next week they should be repaired

I agree with Satch, that they don't look Philips-like, nor the drivers.
But then Philips did go through a mental period in the 80s where they put their name on a lot of Taiwanese OEM stuff that had absolutely nothing relsated to Philips in it at all.

yes i saw "quarterwave" printed on the cabs but from the looks of the design and the way the woofer is mounted it just seems too small to be a 1/4 wave design.

it could be a variation of an aperiodic design which Fried called a 'line tunnel'. was there a lot of foam or stuffing in the cab?

hmmm i always seem to find this odd ball stuff
ill fix them and see what they are like and if not up to it ill flick them on to some one starting up a system or wont some big speakers

well its strange but i have found a second set the same ,sound ok, better than any other phillips speaker i have heard , so i still have the others sofour of them now, hmmm what to do with them all?

well its strange but i have found one more set ,and every one i speak to seems to not know the model ?
i must have the only ones made out there hahahah
sound wise certainly better than a ported speaker of same size how ever the highs are a bit it your face ,
but bass seems fairly nice but no where like my big kef driver transmission lines i use every day but still good
thinking of using them all in a 5.1 system ,should be fun ,

Hello Mike I have a pair of 23AH824 still in the back of my workshop under a layer of dust. I picked them up in the 80's when I was a electronics apprentice. We repaired hundreds of speakers back then so I got to compare lots of models and for a general purpose "Rock speakers" these were one of the best I had heard. Very heavy to lift and the woofer had very light suspension which could go very low even at low volume. After only just finding your post (a bit late) I am going to dig them out and see if my memory serves me correctly. So I will come back with the results if anyone is still interested. May even do a youtube review as I cannot find a single mention of this model. Cheers Jason
