A table like this?

Can anyone think of a table like this?

  • Quartz-locked Direct Drive.
  • Looks like a Sysyemdek XII (walnut).
  • Extremely low rumble.
  • Good isolation like a spring suspended table.
  • Can swap arms. Preferably ones with detachable headshells.

Because that would be my ideal table...

Other than the "Looks like a Sysyemdek XII (walnut)" caveat, a Technics SL1700 MK2 or SL1800 MK2 will fit the bill.

Hmmm Direct Drive + Wooden plinth tends towards = Japanese...

Usually also = non suspended...

There might be some micro-seiki's that would fit the bill...

Some European tables have the Direct Drive + suspension bit, but usually without the exchangeable tonearms... and without the wooden plinth....

The DD period was mostly (outside of the Japs) the peak of the plastic tech look... Wood was a bit passe.

One of the big JVC or Denon's would get close, but is not suspended...

Goldmund Studietto is I think the closest fit, but again - no wood....

I can give up on the exchangeable arms as long as the stock arm is a quality silver one with a detachable headshell but can't let go of the look and that's pretty hard it seems.

I'm also not a fan of somewhat futuristic look of Denon or JVC. Prefer the simpler look of the Systemdek etc.

Yamaha GT-2000L will come close but that thing is darn toooo big.

My advice?

You may be able to find a Micro Seiki that fits the bil. But it will be pricey.

The modular JVC QL-7 in a custom plinth can look asonishing, or a Technics SP25. in stock plinth. Not "sprung", but heavy solid plinths, and then I go further and add Isonoe feet- aluminum machined feet with rubber hung suspension.

Here's a pic of my SP25....

Here's a JVC QL-10- pretty impossible to find. The QL-7 is it's little brother, is more affordable and show up here and there.

Both the QL-7 and QL-10 look very much alike- a quick glance and you couldn't tell the difference.

Your getting into the best of the TOTL Japanese direct drives re the TT-101 and 30 years later still difficult to beat.

Yes, this is the rarified atmosphere of "Halo" reference models - these were the models the Japs were making when they made no holds barred attempts at the ultimate!

As is to be expected - they can still wipe the floor with the majority of TT's today.
