A trick to get glued on knobs off

I came across a couple small knobs that adjust the scope on a Marantz tuner. Some individual evidently decided that some glue was in order. I soaked them with alcohol for days with no result. In fact, the prior owner pulled the stem from one of the pots trying to get one of the knobs off. Managed to take the pot apart and repair it, but I digress. I tried heating with a hairdryer, nada, then I got the idea of cold. I happened to have a can of medical freeze spray and figured, what the heck. Gave it a good long blast and heard a pop. I was hoping that was the contraction of the metal breaking the adhesive seal. Sure enough, I was then able to negotiate the knob off! I don't know what kind of glue they used, maybe epoxy but it was not coming off. My last hope was ruining the knob with acetone but fortunately it didn't come to that. You can get the medical freeze spray on Amazon for $10 a can. A great 10 dollar tool to have in your bag of tricks.

Kleen Flo Rub'n Dri hand cleaner have been very useful to me with glued parts, Sansui AU-999 toggles swiches caps glued with something like contact cement.

This product contains a little bit of solvent, but don't evaporate and dry fast like paint thinner etc...

I left the unit face down with stuff penetrating in the caps for a few days.

The caps was easy to remove after.

Don't dmage plastics like Acetone or some other solvents.
