A VPI question

I bought my VPI scout about 5 years ago. I need to determine which tonearm came with my rig. I was always under the impression that is was the JMW Memorial tonearm because it is printed on the box in which I plug it in. The arm is tapered.

I've noticed that the changed the Scout 1, lowered the price and are using a cheaper tonearm. I think you need to buy the Scout 2 now to get the JMW arm. Am I correct?

The reason I need to know is that I want to eventually put on a Dynavector 20X2 cartridge but have to match the compliance. From my reading I saw that the Dynavector is a good match for the JMW memorial tonearm. The JMW has more density and can take the Dynavector. I definitely don't want to to have a compliance mismatch.

Can anyone help me identify exactly what I have?

Since the VPI founder retired, I've been having trouble communicating with the company. I really like that new "VPI Scout Prime" but am worried about buying from VPI. They used to be a small, family owned company where you could always get friendly advice over the phone. I guess as they grew large, things changed. Customer support is of primary importance to me when I but such an expensive piece of equipment. I know, some people spend $80,000 on turntables. But to me, "The Scout Prime" would by a huge expense.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Its easy to communicate with Harry at the new VPI forum. Have asked several questions and have always received a answer. May take a few days but he does answer to issues.

I will try to send several photos. Note: The tone arm is tapered at the front. I put a piece of scotch tape at the front to hold up the cartridge wires because they were dragging on the record. The tape gives the appearance that the arm isn't tapered. Thanks for all the help.

You have the "9T" tonearm. The "T" means tapered. Here's a photo of the 9T scout arm.

Here's the new Scout tonearm. It's just called "The New JMW Scout Tonearm".
