Hi everyone!
I've been reading and learning a ton from this site for the last year or so, but this is my first post and I hope to get a bit of input/advice on my first Fisher tube purchase. I'm a musician with good ears and really looking to get the tube sound. I'm currently running a NAD 7020 with two sets of speakers in two side by side rooms that open up to one another. In my living room I have Klipsch fortes (which I hear will go great with the Fisher) and in my adjoining dining room I have a pair of Alison Fours (which probably won't pair so well with the Fisher).
So, I'm currently discussing sales with two different folks for two different Fisher receivers.
One has a 400, claims it's all original and all working, except the tuning cord and the on/off switch - both of which need replacement. It comes with the wooden cabinet and from the pics is in pristine cosmetic shape. He wants $500, but I may be able to get him to do a bit better. The other had an 800c, that he'll also do for $500, but it's got some rust on the chassis and RCA jacks, no case and a few knobs are missing the brass ends.
I'm sure both will need some work, and I know I'll either need to sink a bit more $$ and/or time into either.
I'd like to be able to run two sets of speakers like my current set up and know the 800c has two sets of speaker outs, though I have heard it's not a good idea unless the speakers are highly efficient (maybe I can eventually get another set of fortes, a pair of heresys or something else that is efficient). I know the 400 only runs one set of speakers, but wonder if I could run a second set with a good speaker selector box.
So, I know it may be hard to give opinions without really seeing/hearing/testing both, but any thoughts?
I'd love to get a mint Fisher, but I spoke with the Fisher Doctor on the phone the other night (great guy and great convo), but they're simply out of my price range for now.
By the way, I listen to all styles of music, and while I do listen to radio and CDs my favorites are records on my Dual 1229.
Any advice is very welcome!
