He indicates "Spliced". Why would he splice a cord to a unit that didn't work?
It sounds "on the level" to me.

Not saying it doesn't work. Just repeating something I read in these forums. Happy to be corrected as I have a Soundcraftsmen Eq in that condition.

No correction from me, just conjecture.
I spliced a cord to a dolby unit once. It had about 15 feet of reach.
