Acceptable 'Snubber' Cap(s) for Kenwood KA-7100

It is supposed to be there for arc suppression. However, most every failed power switch I've ever seen had a cap like that on it. The CDE Quencharc snubber array is vastly superior.

As you say. It is there for arc suppression. "...the cap is there because switch contacts bounce. When a switch contact bounces, the connection between the two contacts is opened and closed repeatedly. The load, being inductive, wants to keep the current flowing. When the flow of current is cut (due to an open switch contact), the voltage will rise causing the switch contacts to be arced over. The arcing is a high frequency plasma. The cap across the switch contacts is a very low impedance for the high frequency arc, quenching the arc, saving the switch contacts." AK's Jon Logan 10/23/13. I've seen it said they do a poor job of it.

The quencharc array from CDE is a cap in series with a resistor. It seems to work a lot better than just a capacitor alone. You could probably just use a 600V film cap in series with a 1/2 or 1 watt resistor, but it isn't as tidy.
