Accord Speakers???????????

I remember it was an Accord brand for Soviet stereos (mostly turntables), but I don't remember if they had any speakers.
Beats me...

I just picked up a pair of these at a yard sale for $1 each. About 17" tall, 9" wide, 10" deep, some heft to them. 3" tweeter, 5" woofer, small port. Only identification was an "Accord" badge on the grill. Tried them with my main system, and they actually sound OK. The bass was kinda overachieving like most any smaller ported speaker, but the mid/high was pretty good with nice detail. The sound reminds me of an HPM-100, but not as "boomy."

Opened them up and found no brand name on the drivers, so no bragging rights here. I'm guessing they were packaged with some department store system. Still, they are not bad. You system will probably bring out the best in them.

Oh, c'mon. I was just kidding about the HPM-100s!

I've had Accord 310's since about 1978. Nice and heavy. They compared well in the frat house to anything their size. I bought them at an indianapolis stereo speciality store. I went to get some infinity's but these had a more fulfilling mid-bass. Mine 25" tall, 15" wide, and 12 1/2" deep. They have a 10" woofer, a 4" midrange, and a 5"x2" horn. Has a passive radiator on the backside. High and mids are adjustable on front. Nice clear midrange. A punchy bass that is tight but lacks a just little on the deep end. Sound to me much like a slightly smaller JBL 100. I don't recall the watt rating but originally used them with a Sanyo 55 watt receiver. They've been hooked to a one hundred watt Technic's for a long time. I've blown a lot of speakers over the years. These little babies have never missed a beat. My cat destroyed the radiators and I've found a perfect replacement with a 12" Infinity/ESS piece. They've always been impressive to anyone who's ever heard them in an average room. Now they sit in a 15x 20 room with 12' ceilings so I thought about finally upgrading them. But honestly I think they still sound great. So I've decided to just add a nice powered sub to handle the low end.

Welcome to AK.

I have accord 3way 310s I Love them.... BUT i couldn't still cant find really any information on them. I've had them for roughly 17 years hooked to some very powerful amplifiers and have had no problems whatsoever. I used a 200 watt rms amp in a parade with these speakers and they were great! was told to turn the volume down on a few occasions. The same setup I actually use in my house and I cant turn them up all the way otherwise the police will come that is a known experience with these. ALSO with these that loud I notice no discernable distortion and no clipping telling me that the speakers can more than handle a 200 watt rms amplifier but at the same time 200 watts might be the perfect amount of power no clipping and no distortion. UPDATE: Hooked the speakers to a less powerful 120 watt maximum ( 60 watt RMS?) and they sound great BUT turn it up to much and the amp cant push enough power so it starts clipping. Sony 5.1 Surround amp. That said... I have no idea what sort of power these things are capable of handling, I have no Idea about the history of the manufacturing, I want to find out.... these are some of the best speakers I've ever had the pleasure of using.
