Accuphase T-108, How to Adjusting FM frequency

SX-950SX-980

I am looking at buying an Accuphase T-108 digital tuner that is from japan. The tuner works on the frequency of 76MHz to 90MHz. I need the unit to work within 88 - 108. As the unit has a digital display I'm sure there would be a pot or similar inside the unit which I could just adjust to open up the MHz range. Any ideas?

Usually there are jumpers, or diodes which need to be added, removed or changed. The tuning frequencies are microprocessor controlled, and changing the tuning range is processor controlled. Info should be in service manual, sometimes there is info on the PCB itself. There usually two jumpers or diodes which are matrixed for japanese, european, or US settings.YMMV

Ok I thought it could be possible. If I could find a service manual for a T-108 that would help.

Does anyone know who the resident Accuphase expert is at Audiokarma?

Start with Punker X as an expert on Tuners in general. The T108 is a fairly complex unit, and I think that changing it over will be more difficult than you're expecting.

I haven't seen one here.. no idea one way or the other. Doug S. I seem to recall going down this road and actually needed a different front-end module form Accuphase or something. Wasn't easy to get. Might be easier to look for a US or even EU spec tuner.

Here's a bump to a very old thread: I believe that Doug has posted more recently about the configuration of a recent Accuphase tuner being software-driven. I'm sure it's easier nowadays to make one tuner for the world and just program it at the factory. Accuphase has always kept their proprietary information close to the vest.

The upshot being: A tuner bought in Japan might only work in Japan. Caveat Emptor.

The more recent DDS/DSP based Accuphase tuners can be switched between the 76-90 and 88-108 bands by a code input from the front panel. This at least applies to the T-1000 and T-1100 - I verified the latter personally on my T-1100. They also have transformers which can be rewired to 120VAC or 230VAC power. I don’t have any information about the current T-1200, though.

My understanding is that older models (T-109 and prior) do require replacing the front end, which is very difficult to obtain. I wouldn’t bother trying to convert a Japanese version to US standards. However, it is possible to convert European spec versions to US spec - that just requires rewiring the power transformer primary (that was well marked in my old T-108), and changing two caps to change the deemphasis (the spec sheet for the MPX IC gives the details, since Accuphase doesn’t).

Bob, THANKS for that confirmation about switching the bands on the T-1100 tuner! I have a T-1000 and have long wished to get a T-1100. I have the T-1000 service manual which describes the procedure for changing from the "d" (domestic) to "U" (North & South America) mode settings. HOWEVER, the buttons on the front of the T-1000 are quite different from the buttons on the T-1100! SO, I am guessing that similar button pattern might work? For example: to hold the "Station 10" button while switching the power button on? Am I guessing right? Knowing better regarding how it works would go along way in giving me the confidence to source on US eBay an expensive T-1100 from Japan, where none of the sellers even acknowledge the band issue. Any insight you can share would be most appreciated!
Thanks!
-Chris

Hi, Chris. The T-1100 process for changing frequency range, spacing and de-emphasis is similar to for the T-1000. Here's what you do:

  1. Start with the tuner off. Press the Memory 10 key while powering up. I sometimes had to do this twice, or double press the Memory 10 key after power up. You'll know it worked if the display says something like "Id 1.01"
  2. For U type (North America), press Mode, then Memory
  3. For E type (Europe), press Local/Dx, then Memory
  4. For D type (Japan), press Mute, then Memory
  5. Power the tuner down. When you power back up, you will be in the selected mode.
Note that after changing the region type, all memories will be erased.

I don't know whether or not this same process works for the T-1200

I hope this helps

For the Accuphase T-109, can the domestic Japanese 100V voltage be changed to 220V? If possible, I’d appreciate it if you could tell me how.
