Dare I say it? Other than the fact that they aren't Advents anymore, they might be quite good. Or terrible, but the tweeters look good, and it looks like someone was careful in their work.

The more writing a woofer has on it... isn't that some symbol of hi quality? Or maybe it will go loud. Or something. Maybe it is digital ready now, which is something those nasty original advents never where.

So if these were given to you, you wouldn't even listen to them before tossing them on the bonfire? There have been good sounding DIY ported speakers built before, and given the surprisingly large sums asked for some of those car woofers with printing all over (maybe learned from OHM, who of course never made a single speaker listening to), some of them might actually be good.
I agree, the price asked seems implausible, but the cabinets are nice looking, and at least the tweeter looks promising, and the porting looks like someone too care. Does it sound good -- who knows? But I've had too many set opinions proved wrong to feel confident dumping on even unlikely lookng designs.
And yes, for the irony impaired, OHM made many fine speakers, almost all with writing on the dustcap.

Good. The guy should have built good sounding DIY ported speakers instead of molesting those cabs then trying to sell them at the asking price for the real deal.

I don't think anyone commented on how they sound.

Oh come on -- the easiest source of good looking enclosure is blown speakers, and to insist that all DIYers make their own cabinets is ridiculous -- are you going to crucify all the econowavers here? If so, you've got a big project ahead of you.
And regardless of whether the price asked is realistic, you can't blame the guy for asking what he thinks they are worth. The fact that orignal Advents tend to go for the same price may be a coincidence -- they are both nice round sums. (And frankly, given the ubiquity of Advents, I sure wouldn't pay that for a pair, so original or redone, to me the price is way too high. Says the man who just picked up a pair at the dump... (And yes, they are startlingly good in their stock form, even for that 100 I wouldn't pay for them.))

Now you are being absurd. The title of the ad was "Large Advent Loudspeakers", not "DIY speaker build". I have enough confidence in the people here to state that few if any would lead someone to believe that their e-wave was still the same product as it started it's life as. The good ones would take enough pride in their creation to call it what it is. The failed experiments would have the dignity to not try to get a ridiculous amount of money for their project.

uh, a little sarcasim is all

never take me too seriously - I sure don't

I wouldn't spend $109 for some cabinets to econowave....that's for sure. I could build my own for far less than that.
