Acoustat speaker suggestions

Greetings,

I stumbled upon a pair of Acoustat electrostatic speakers and I'm needing some recommendations. The control unit is model MK-121, but I'm not sure about the speakers themselves. Also, They sound a bit compressed due to emphasis in midrange compared to my NHT Classic 2 speakers. Changing the HF knobs on back doesn't seem to influence the sound in any substantial way (could this be one of the problems?). Basically, I"m wondering if there's anything I should look at in the circuits, a potential panel problem, or are these just generally slightly bassy/midrange centric speaker in general?

Any thoughts and suggestions regarding these would be greatly appreciated.

Those look like the original Acoustat commercial product, the Model X, which would have had a direct drive tube/ss hybrid amplifier in place of the 121 interfaces.

The original amps were known for being temperamental and (many thought) not the last word in resolution. I enjoyed them, but like all Acoustats, positioning is key to peak performance.

Well, I found a major problem which was my pre-pro. It tried using my sub with a bass enhance - bad NAD, bad!

After a bit of re-positioning they sound good, very good.

I agree with eurasian.

Glad you got them working right. Very glad you like them. For the price you paid they are a bargain.
