acoustat x speakers

So I have a chance at some nice acoustat speakers. They have just been serviced and are in really nice shape, beige grill cloth. However I'd have to trade a tube amp setup (mono block) to get them. I have about 2k in the amps, is this a decent deal or am I blind and stupid if I do this deal? I don't know much about the speakers aside from great reviews. Any help would be appreciated

have you heard 'em before? or any electrostatic speakers? some love 'em and some don't. if you liked electrostatic in general, you'll love this one. i had a quite long foray into the electrostatic world with acoustat, quad, martin logan, and etc. just because i didn't have huge budget to work with, it was somewhat tiring and tedious at times. not sure what mono blocks you're trading with, but if the speakers are in top restored shape and you're into electrostatics, i'd definitely suggest that you do it.
 
Not that I'm an expert here, but I have been snooping around for Acoustats for the last few months. From what I've seen, $2000 for fully functional and serviced Acoustat X's is probably at the high end of their value. Frommer or E-Stat would have the best idea. What are the Tube Amps you're trading Galaxie?
 
It does seem like a fair trade. The only caveat is you will be losing your tube amps. I know these speakers come with mono blocks, but they are dedicated amps, can't be used with other speakers afaik. i have a set of speakers with dedicated amps, the Acoustech X. I like them a lot, but miss the ability to change things up sometimes.
Of course, it does give you the excuse to buy more gear.
 
Just did a quick look see and here's some Model 3's in Atlanta for $550. I believe the Model Three is a newer version of the X with the Transformers. One advantage of the Transformers over the Amps is it allows you to match an amp that might give you a different voicing.

There's also some Model 2+2's up near you in Broomfield for $1200. So again those X's are probably near the upper end in value even if they do come with Amps.

Thanks guys , my gut told me no but I just had to ask. I have a set of tskiridis Artemis mono blocks that are more then 2k but it was going to be for a buddy. The amps usually sell around 2700 or so, but for a friend I was tempted. I just don't need more gear. I just wanted it lol

I might be making the trip to bt at some point, but who knows.

I had the huge monitor 4's and sold them to get the somewhat smaller model 3's. I really like them. Good recordings are just amazing. Pretty narrow sweet spot, but if you are okay with that, then they can't be beat. Very accurate and not colored like most dynamic/cone speakers. I would ask him to sweeten the deal a little, like with a decent cdp or cart or whatever.
