Acoustic Control Corp model #636.

Metalownz

Audiophile? Getting there
I figured since i just got these and loved the sound id see if there are any other fans of this brand of speaker?

The 626 seems to be the most popular model of the line. They also made the 616, and 648. Mine is the model down from the 648 but im the only person i know of who has this model. It would be cool to chat with some of you people regarding these. I have a brochure and tells you they run on 4 OHMS but never tells you the efficiency numbers.

Here are mine I bought about 5 years ago for $25.00, they needed surrounds and the foam speaker grill was shot. When I got mine I posed the same question, there was another member here that had a pair and he preferred his 626 to a pair of Heresey's he owned.

Wow, they bested his Heresys?? Thats Heresy, lol. Well my 636's bested my Pioneer HPM-100's with the updated Dayton crossovers. I cant believe how good these sound! My grills are the original foam. You got yours for a steal. I paid $100 for mine. Worth every cent. They go under the radar because people think they are the white van speakers which they most certainly are not. Mine weigh 80 pounds apiece!

Yours are beautiful btw. Here are mine.

Very nice, I was going to pickup a second pair a few years ago 200 miles from me but the road trip never happened.

Really hard finding any info on the model 636's. Glad you posted here OP.
Some of the links above are extremely helpful too.

I'll post pics of my set of 636's shortly.

Looking forward to seeing them. How long have you had yours? And how do you like them?

I've had mine since 1996. Got them as a gift from the original owner - he worked for Cerwin-Vega for years, but I believe he said he worked for Acoustic in Van Nuys, before that. He knew these speakers were the bomb.
And these speakers sound better than anything else I've ever owned. My 636's are the standard I use to gauge other speakers.

Very nice. What else did you compare them to? Mine bested everything else ive owned also. I also got mine from the original owner for almost nothing.

I have a set of 616's and 626's. The 616's were given to me by my mom who bought them brand new in '79. LOVE how they sound! I just acquired the 626's and patiently awaiting to see how they sound once I get the woofers back from being re-foamed

Nice! Lets keep this thread alive with our love of Acoustic speakers! I love my 636's! They sound incredible! These speakers are vastly underrated. If i was closer i could have gotten a set for $60. All they needed was a refoam.

They are very underrated! My 616s are in excellent shape and well taken care of. The 626s are a little rough cabinet wise and one is missing the emblem which I'm going to try to find a replacement. It's my mission to find a set of 636s next!

Very nice! You have two sets at least! My 636's are in gorgeous shape. I got lucky with mine. The guy who sold them to me lived in Van Nuys where these were manufactured. He moved out here to PA around 20 years ago. He had the woofers refoamed around 4-5 years ago. If you get an opportunity get the 636's. Just a friendly reminder, they are a 4 ohm speaker.

626 on the left and 616 on the right. I'm currently running them through my Onkyo tx-2500mkII that my mom bought with the 616s. I'm looking to upgrade to a tx-4500 or the monster tx-8500
