Acoustic Research AR8s Re-Cap

Hi Guys

I'm currently restoring a pair of AR8s speakers that belonged to my grandfather. New grill cloth and refoaming is done and now I want to Re-Cap the crossover. Has anyone done this? Any advice on which caps to use (UK) would be very welcome.

Falcon Acoustics, in the UK, sells the very good Alcap NPE's as well as ClarityCap polys. Either should do very nicely. The ClarityCaps aren't too bright either, like some polys, if you want to give those a try?

How close should I stick to the original values? The cap on there currently is 5uf 50v - should I find one with exact same values?

Match the 5uF as closely as possible. Within a 5% tolerance is usually OK. Though, the voltage for the new cap, can be higher without issue. But, generally, the higher the voltage, the larger the cap. Still, it looks like you have plenty of room in there, to play.
