Active Crossovers

Howdy folks, I just discovered my Dahlquist passive crossover box for my DQ-1W subwoofer is U/S. I'm considering using a modern active crossover to replace it. I'm not all that familiar with active crossovers so I have a couple questions.

1] Do you need to use 2 amplifiers with an active crossover or can you use a single amp like the Dahlquist Passive?
2] Any suggestions for a brand of active crossover to look at?

Many thanks for any help!

1 - The reasoning behind active crossover based systems is to have multiple amps, each driving a driver or set of drivers. In your case an amp driving the sub-woofer, and another driving the main speakers

2- Behringer is hard to beat in the cost / performance aspect.

3- They optionally sum to mono for a single sub amp, yes.

One active crossover (Tapco makes several in decent price ranges), plus two stereo amps will put you in business.
