Active Speakers for Audio Technica LP60

Hi all!
I will shortly be buying an AT LP60, for my first turntable, and need to complete the setup with a pair of active speakers. Bear in mind, that I have a limited budget, and do not really want to be spending in excess of £60, (About $90 USD) so, and correct me if I'm wrong, I thought the most economical option here would be to buy the active speakers, and not the separate amp and speakers. I've been looking at the Behringer MS16s, which appear to be the best for the price range I'm looking in. What do you all think? Will these work well? Or am I about to make a fatal error! :DAny advice appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I'd say just stick to name-brand desktop monitors -- Behringer, Alesis, Cerwin-Vega, M-Audio. I think all of those outfits have something in your price range.

Sounds like solid advice! Those names all sound familiar from my research. But do you think that there be any huge compromise in sound quality at this price range?

A huge compromise in sound quality? Absolutely. My guess you'll be limited to units with 3-inch woofers.

Which would mean? Roughly on a scale of one to ten, with one being near inaudible, and ten as clear as a summer day? How much do you think I would need to spend to see any kind of noticeable improvement?

All of the companies I mentioned above make small monitors that should produce very clear sound. That is, you won't miss anything in the treble range and the high mids. If you really want to narrow down the choices, you might have to listen to stuff at a shop. If anything is inaudible, it will probably be bass below 90Hz. That can't be helped, given the physics.

The Cerwin-Vega 3-inchers (don't remember the exact model designation) got an excellent review by a pro audio engineer in 'Recording' magazine when they were first released. Just saying. I've never heard them myself.

I use JBL LSR305's for my desktop monitoring, but those are 3+ times the price of what you're considering. I admit these sound great.

You might want to consider a cheap headphone mixer (Behringer makes one) and a set of headphones (AKG, Audio-Technica, Sony, Sennheiser, etc) instead of desktop monitors. You'll get more bass response that way. I'm not in love with headphones myself, but it's an idea.
