Acutex 312 Stylus info?

OK, the Accutex LPM 210IIE sound kinda like a Stanton 680EEE to me. :D

Are you referring to the Pioneer PL-7 headshell? :scratch2:

Not a bad way to sound!

The headshell I was referring to is the Acutex "Saturn V" integrated headshell.

No, not that one!!!

Very nice one though! :thmbsp:

My is the 1/2 inch version.

Your cartridge is the same as mine. What you have is the 1/2" adapter. So do I. The cartridge body just slides into and out of the gray plastic part or plugs into the headshell. See photo of complete "kit".

I did not know that!

Thanks for the picture and explanation!!! :thmbsp:

You're welcome. It's a pretty cool concept, IMO.

You still haven't told me how you like yours! :)

John

Sounds very nice with good bass, good mid range and detail high.

The high seem to be brighter than the Stanton 680EEE, more like the Ortofon OM20.

I left it on the Pioneer PL-7 because it sounds so nice with it.

The original owner must have his reason for choosing that particular cartridge.

Seems to suit each other, synergy ? :scratch2:

Well, just for grins I did an eBay search for Acutex. Right there, big as anything, was an Acutex M210 II E, NIB. It had a BIN of $19.99 shipped. Well, what's a body to do faced with a deal like that? So, it should be here in a week or so. I'm very interested to check this one out.

The OP made the right move keeping the Acutex cartridge. Just goes to show that it's worth checking not so special turntables to see what cartridge is installed. More than once the cartridge was worth many times the value of the turntable.

Nice!:thmbsp:

Now back to the TOL Acutex M 312 III STR!!! :D

I might put this one on my Miracord when I move to the new house this summer. I have a really nice Shure on my main table right now. Glad I held onto it... sounds like I've got something good here.

The Accutex 312 was designed for a lightweight tonearm, Grace 707 for example. No idea what the weight of the Miracord tonearm is but if it's a mismatch the Accutex wont sound right. If it isn't a good match and you arn't planning on getting another table/tonearm that will do the Accutex justice you might want to consider finding it a new home for it where it will be put to good use.

Ok Ordered an Acutex 312 this morning, very excited to hear it.

These are some super high compliance cartridges though! I think it's hopeless to get it to work in my Denon's DP-1200 mid-mass S-pipe tonearm.

Guess it's relegated to duty on my Sony PS-FL1's very low mass tonearm

Acutex M312 III STR just arrived!

Mounted and playing in my Sony PS-FL1, arrived from Italy in only a week.

Will follow up with listening impressions after

I'm enjoying my lesser M210 II E very much. I can only imagine how yours will sound.

If you want to go the whole 9 yards, there's a "Saturn V" modular headshell like mine on eBay. They're very slick looking!

Yeah I saw a picture of the modular headshell on the side of the M312 box and was hoping it was inside (only half heartedly  )

What Table/Tonearm are you running the 210 on? The 312 is pretty high compliance, but at some point I will give it a spin on my S-pipe tonearm to see how it sounds.

Oh, also grabbed a M415 STR too.

Has a "Perfect STR" tip on it (Shibata, Tri Radial) I believe nude mounted instead of bonded. Even higher compliance on this one. Will try it out one day too :D

I've got it on an SL-1600 MK2. The 200 "Standard Series" is a lot lower compliance than the 300 "Almost Perfect" and "Perfect Series". My M210 II E is 20 x 10-6 with a recommended VTF of 1.8 to 2.8g. Your M312 III STR is 32 x 10-6 with a VTF of from 1.2 to 2.5g.

I think all of these LPM cartridges run surprisingly high tracking force, given their compliance. Seems almost contradictory.

Agreed, I read in another audiokarma thread that one speculation out there is that they revised the VTF from much lower

Acutex revised the tracking force for the M3xxIII series long nose to a much higher VTF. For example the M320III: original VTF was 0.4-0.75mg, revised to 1.5-2.3mg. Makes you wonder about the compliance figures. M320III has 42x10-6 cm/dyne. Weird, isn't it?

Maybe the compliance figures were never updated? A long shot, I know but perhaps the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

John I wasn't able to find the Saturn headshell on ebay, do you mind pm'ing me the link?
Thanks!
