Adc elm mki

Any info on this cartridge?
The usual sources have replacement stylus but no info on cart. By sheer coinkydink I recently snagged an ADC XLM MKII and they look strikingly similar. Since the stylus on the ELM sounds rough, I'm wondering if I could try the XLM stylus just for kicks

Roger, don't think you're being ignored it's just the ELM must not be too well known, never heard of it myself (could be an OEM for a hifi chain store?) but am curious to hear anything you find out about it, what color body does it have?

I recall the VLM,XLM and ZLM styli being interchangeable as the cart body was the same however I don't recall the ELM.If you decide to try it check the cantilever length and dia is or at least looks the same on the inside of the plastic stylus body before attempting the swap.Lay them needle side up side by side to compare
If the cantilever dia is larger on the elm then it could damage the cartridge internals or break the cantilever, likewise if the cantilever isn't the same length then you may get no sound or damage may occur.

Photos coming shortly. It is bit of a curiosity. The cart was on a Sony PS-5100 turntable I found. I think it is lower end of ADC cart. Replacement stylus is available for under $40. Found the manual for Sony at VE, but specs page wasn't included. The Sony headshell is standard mount. However, the cart is fixed to headshell with no provision for adjustment. The PS-5100 is a nice looking belt driven, semi-auto TT.

Here ya go . . .

Cart body is silver and stylus body is black. The ELM stylus tapers down toward stylus tip. the XLM mkii stylus body is uniform (straight) to stylus tip. The stylus fits the cart perfectly and plays OK. However, Sony manual suggest setting the VTF at 2 grams for OEM cart (ELM ???). Of course, the XLM suggested VTF is much lower.

I've not found much info on the Sony PS-5100 either. Aren't TT's fun

Interesting pics, and I agree at that tracking force a lower end ADC, haven't looked but there may be something on it in the cartridge database.

Yep, it is strikingly similar to QLM photos online. Both the XLM and QLM are high compliance carts. The Sony arm is S-shaped, similar to Technics that I assume is medium mass and wouldn't be a good match.

I had checked VE cart database and it's not there. However, VE did have the Sony manual :thmbsp:
