ADC Sound Shaper Three Equalizer

Check out my ADC Sound Shaper Three Equalizer. It weighs 15 pounds and appears to be well built. I don't use an EQ and I usually get rid of them when they come in the door. Anyways, this one is cool and might find a place in my collection.

I had one of those years ago. I may have to look into picking another one up. I had HELLA control! lol. It would look nice along with my other Carver gear with the rack handles!

I have an older ADC SS-2 model equalizer.
I use it for DIY speaker projects.
I find it useful...especially when figuring out L-pad attenuation values.

Hey! I know this is an old thread, but I have an ADC Sound Shaper Three as well, and I always wondered what the hell the SLM jack on the lower-right of the front panel was for. Any ideas? :dunno:

I have had mine, along with the SA-1 Spectrum Anylizer since new in 1981. .
I have used them ever since , In fact I purchaced 2 more of each over the years as back ups. if you are a control freak you will either go insane or be in nirvana . I have experienced both. I am not near my manual and I have never used the SLM jack. I know the SA-1 comes with a pink noise generator but it (the mike) plugs into the SA-1

Your going to need a gallon of faderlube...:D

Got a Sound Shaper 3 too - wonderful, but I don't think the lower sliders row does anything - mine does not :tears:

Beautiful.

I have an ADC sound shaper 110. It has been in the attic for years. Now that I caught the vintage bug I'll have to bring it down and test it out. Anyone know if deox would be in order for the sliders. It has a red led on each slider (10 per channel) I lost one of the black slider knobs it would be great if anyone out there had an extra.

the changes within each band are very subtle to be sure. and at times I agree but the SA-1 is awesome for fine tuning . I have used mine over , DAMN ! 28 years? and I can tell in the kitchen or den if things are even a little. off. I guess it grows on you

Very nice Shaper you have there SoCal Sam,
I hope to add an ADC EQ to my system soon.

Mine are not the led model. I always thought those looked really cool. I could spare a plain one if you cannot find the led type.

Sound Level Microphone input, had a 3 with the LED's in the late 70's early 80's when I had all rack mounted equipment. Think I may still have the microphone in a drawer with all the other small audio junk I've never thrown out!

Any idea what function it serves? Anything particularly special about the mic? Will you send me the mic for free? :D

Thank you for the offer Dwight. Actually I have the black slider knob. Years ago out of curiosity, I took off the knob, but there is a clear plastic piece inside the knob that fell out (a diffuser of sorts-very small) Anyway I could not find it. When the EQ is on that slider is still red but not as bright as the others. It is noticeable, but not critical. Again thank you.

Just picked up a Three-IC parametric EQ with the manual and this is what it says about the SLM Jack:

"SLM JACK
When used with the Audio Dynamics SLM-300 Sound level meter, Pink-Noise Record and 20 foot Interconnecting Audio cable, the right channel "LED METER"on the equalizer will read the output of the sound level meter directly.
This permits you to adjust the equalizer at the equalizer position when compensating your sound system or room acoustics."

I have a SS3 IC, the only problem that it has is a tapping sound on one channel. Anyone know what this might be caused by?
