I have an Adcom 555 II. I’m the original owner. What’s the story with these amps? I heard they have no speaker protection relay. Does anyone make a kit that could mod this amp with a speaker protection circuit? I’ve had no trouble from my amp and it’s currently hooked up to Magnepan MM 12/QR speakers ( 4 ohms ). The amp is getting up there in age. Wondering if I should have it recapped or replaced.

Schematic does not show a protect relay. Assembled kits can be purchased on the bay from our good friends in china.
I'd be looking at a 15A relay for the adcom. The kits generally require a 12VAC supply, best to use a separate transformer
however in your case you might be able to run it off the winding for the fan motor (need to check).

Regarding recap or replace, depends how cashed up you are. The 555ii has a good rep, I'd be inclined to give it a good
listen, if the bass is still tight and the highs crystal clear then enjoy it otherwise I'd recap etc rather than replace. Schematic
does not show a lot of caps so should be an easy job for someone.
