Adcom GCD-750 cd tray won't open

Hi everyone,

Just got a cheap Adcom GCD-750 because the tray doesn't open. I'm going to take it apart and have a look, but being pretty novice to the world of hifi repairs does anyone have any advice?

From what i read, this could be due to a worn or broken cd tray belt. I've looked online to see if replacements can be found and I've seen some other Adcom model belts for sale (GCD-575), but not for my model. Would they be the same size, or is my best bet seeing if I can measure the one that's in there (if it's even possible)?

Also, I'm kinda hoping that the collective knowledge of AK will pull through and someone here knows the size or who to reach out to.

gadget bought a belt assortment for about the cost of a belt and brought that baggie full of belts over. Fixed tray problems on 5 cdps I have here using ones that fit, not the 10 buck one that someone found works and sells on the bay for that unit.

Congratulations on your GFP-750!!! That is an amazing pre-amp. I would personally combine it with a GFA-555. As far as the CD player. I believe it is identical to a Denon model (can't remember the exact one), but featured a custom face plate. I had a GCD-750 about 10 years ago. I remember getting it though Ebay. Mine never functioned properly as it had issues with the tray also.

Thanks! I was thinking a GFA-5802. I have ohm acoustics "i" model to drive (they can handle 1000 watts) and im currently using a sansui seven which doesn't have the power. I recently bought some ohm L speakers and play both the "i" and "L" together which wounds amazing with the preamp. The "i" basically becomes a pair of subs.

Another step I'm looking at is getting a really good phono stage, like a lehmann audio black cube se ii. My turntable is a garrard 401 with sme 3009 arm.

I had been looking far and wide for an elusive GFP-750 myself, prior to purchasing my Parasound P6 Halo. I have heard the combination GFP-750 with the GFA-555 (II, I believe) and some large B&W bookshelf speakers several years ago. One of the tracks that I heard on that combination that really stood out to me was Jefferson Starship: Miracles. The set-up was perfect for the space, and with the 555, for all intents, unlimited power. Well, that is unless the goal is shattered ear drums. Your turntable is an absolute classic!

My current setup is the Parasound P6 in combination with Adcom GFA-565 mono-blocs and Wharfedale Linton speakers. Those amps have the control of the speakers with the death-grip of an iron fist. I personally don't have a turntable, but I do collect CDs and SACDs. I have a Pioneer Elite PD59 and a Marantz SACD player. If you get the Adcom amp, I know a gentleman in Wyoming that specializes in Adcom equipment, but also does other brands too, that I have often used to repair things. He also buys amps and refurbishes them. If you want, I could give you his contact information. Not sure if he has a 5802, but I know he has another completely overhauled pair of 565s, and a 555-II currently (well, at least as of last week).
