I need some help to answer my concerns. I have an Adcom GFA-555II and everytime it is turned on, the speaker drivers pull in and then return outward. There is no 'thump" sound but I am afraid of damaging my speakers. I am using it with a pair of Cornwalls speakers and a Adcom GTP-506 preamp. Should I be concerned?

Maybe. What is the offset at the speaker terminals?

You can use an Adcom speaker selector to switch out your speakers. On power up and after the amp stabilizes, you can switch the speakers on. Switch speakers off before powering down and you won't get a thump.
