ADCOM GFA 5800 on INFINITY RS9 Kappa - protection?

Hi, thank you accept me in this group, I am from Rome, forgive my english i try to do my best, and this ist my first thread :beerchug:...actually I drive my loved 9K with a Karman Kardon PA2400 signature that I really like, but it has its limit in very low frequencies when it exceeds 90 db, then runs in protection. For that I am evaluating the purchase of an Adcom 5800 found in one occasion advice, i know that it has thermal protection, but i heard that it has no protection for the drop in impedance (as you know, the 9 kappas at 33 hz drops to about 0.5 ohm :oops:) and therefore it can burn! :eek: Can someone who knows the amplifier, owns it and has tested it in this parameters, can kindly give me information? Thanks

If your HK PA2400 is still in good working condition I would suggest purchasing the Adcom 5800 and using the two amplifiers to bi-amp the 9Ks. Use the HK for the top end and the Adcom for the woofers. This will help with the load impedance issue. When bi-amping, even in extended mode, the minimum impedance at 33Hz comes up to about 1.5ohms. The two amps together should really open up the sound of the 9Ks.

Yes it runs great, but i experienced a not encouraging test with biamping: i can't measure impedance loads, but unfortunately the misure of db before protection runs was not much different than the monoamp mode, even sound don't seems me better...for this i would try 5800 if someone insure me it would sound higher better and with shure protections

I understand that there is only a thread of the two that I had opened on the same topic, but I do not understand why there were at least a dozen answers from kind members who had the kindness to write very interesting information about the questions for which I had created this thread, and I only see two ... I don't understand the reason for this action, it's a pity to have lost precious information given by people like me who have spent their time to make a contribution, which should be the healthy spirit of each group of fans, I'm very sorry ... sorry:(

Edit: i can't get the 5800 anymore. Now i can choose between the Adcom 555 and the Proton D1200. Maybe i will try with Proton (dpd promise great amount of dynamic power, for less money). Probably stand alone or coupled biamping with HK for high. What do you think?
 
Does your 9s have the switch at the bottom. With it off the bass is not as bad on amps and still sounds really good. That’s what I do.

If you play music with heavy and sustained content in the ranges of the low impedance dips, which you said before, then I suggest something with a proven track record driving 2 ohm or lower loads. Don't buy some other amp just because it is different from what you have and is convenient to get.

Have you searched out and read the other Kappa 9 threads on AK?

my 9 have the switch too, but using them in normal mode means reducing the reproduction of low frequencies from 80 to 70 db (tested on 35 hz) ... it's like having a Ferrari and driving it only in first gear to save petrol IMHO...

reading what I actually managed to find it shouldn't have difficulty driving loads of very low impedances, but it would seem more like a professional PA amplifier than an audiophile one ... will it sound refined or will it only have great dynamics without as much refinement and detail and control? And I would also have found it ... but we consider that it would cost me 40% more than the Adcom 555 first series (designed by Nelson Pass) ... will it be just as well, indeed will it sound better?

Well I can't answer if it will sound better in your system or not.
You should be fine with the 555.
