Adcom GFP 555 and 565 prices

A friend of mine has had one of my GFP 565's on 'trial' for three years. About a year ago he asked about the price and I told him what the prices were on eBay at the time. He pleaded poor but he drives a $75,000 full sized, fully loaded, luxobarge diesel truck with racks for his kayaks (plural) and carbon fiber MTB so no.
A few weeks ago he said he was ready to move on the stereo. I loaned him a GFA 535 and 545. He liked the 545 better.

When we talked before he balked at the price of the GFP 565 so I was thinking to recommend he find a GFP 555. I looked on eBay and the prices for a 555 were pretty close to the price for a 565 and by the time he paid sales tax and shipping it would cost him about the same as what I would sell mine for.

What is a fair price for a GFP 565? A GFP 555?

I just took a very quick look at eBay sold listings and there are quite a few examples for both units. From my very quick look the GFP 565 selling prices ranged from $300 to $575 before shipping. For the GFP 555 the prices were in the $200 to $300 range. It might be worth taking a closer look at the eBay sold listings to discern prices based on condition, location, etc. There was a GFP 565 at an estate sale I went to this weekend. It didn't sell on the first day at $450 and was still there the following morning at $225.

What are the thoughts behind eBay - 25%?
Because unless you are in a hot market it is very difficult to get full Ebay prices in a local sale at least this has been my experience. I think the reason for this is two fold. 1. Ebay has many more people who may want your item/s then locally hence higher average prices. 2. No one wants to pay full Ebay prices so in order to sell most people will post their items slightly below whatever Ebay is getting for them.

Ebay shows you what an item will bring with anyone interested and willing to pay will fork over for particular items of unknown working condition, unknown physical condition and unknown condition after receipt of the item following a trip through the shipping wars jungle.

For this reason being able to go over and look at, evaluate, listen to and touch and feel the item locally as well as haul it home for instant gratification brings a lot to the table as far as value. I would think the item is worth the ebay price. Shipping is unknown unless it is stated as shipping is free or a fixed rate because no one knows where the unit ships and that changes the price of the unit.

Then there is the 12.5% that ebay gets for their service which the seller did not realize that covers the pp fees and add in the discount on shipping provided by the bay and those amounts figure into what the seller nets.

25% off is too high if you have a good market.

There is a reason people sell on Ebay and that reason is they get more money then selling locally if they could get as much locally they would not sell on Ebay since they have to pay fees. Certainly in a great market and with items that are highly sought after you could get full Ebay prices but my belief is that is not the case in most locations. If you sell on Ebay the fees today are substantially more then 12.5 percent since they charge 10% on any taxes to the seller plus another 10% on shipping costs my average is 20% of the total sale amount so 25% off Ebay prices is really only 5% off. Nothing wrong however with starting as high as you wish you never know you may get it and you cant go up in price but you can always go down if your item/s do not sell quickly.

Even in a good market it can be tough. It depends more on the item along with selling platform. CL is a nothingburger at this point. FBM is the place to sell.

I am not insinuating you don't know this. Just pointing it out.
