Adcom GFS-3 protection circuit questions..?

I run a couple sets of speakers from a single amp and have been using a Niles Switcher rather than the A/B speaker outs from my receiver because the Niles has a protection mode switch for the occasional times that I run those two sets of speakers at the same time. Both sets of speakers that I own are 6 ohm and using them together is apparently too much of a load on my Marantz 2270 receiver without the aid of the protection switch on the Niles switcher. All good except for the fact that there's a very obvious performance hit when both sets of speakers are on with the protect switch.... The bass drops by several db.

Just recently though I saw an Adcom GFS-3 switcher for sale on the local ads (looks like their also plentiful on Ebay) and this unit is supposed to have a protection switch which when engaged doesn't change the fundamental sound at all. Is this magic, is it BS, is this kind of a feat even possible and more importantly are there folks on here who have had experience with one of these and what do they/you think of it?

The GFS-3 has resistors inside as well. To what degree they color the sound would depend on your speakers.

Why not just add an external amp?

Huh..? I did a search for the thing but didn't find that thread. Thanks for putting that up here. it sounds like very much mixed reviews, with some saying that the protection circuit thing works and some saying that it doesn't (only taking about sound quality). I wish I had know about that when I bought the Niles switcher as I would have at least been able to try it and see for myself if it works as advertised. I really only play both sets of speakers occasionally and though it does bug me that they sound a little bit weak when I do (with the protection switch on), it still isn't a big deal. I may need to make a $30 or so gamble on a used Adcom switcher and see if it really works. I wonder why it would be dependent on the speakers I have. What type of speakers would work well or less well with it?

As far as running a power amp with my 2270, I had given it some thought as my main speakers for the system Elac Debut 6.2 though they sound very nice, seem to be a bit anemic past a certain volume and I wondered if it had to do with a lack of power. I just recently upgraded to some Jamo c103 speakers and those, even though they're only rated at 1 db more efficient seem much stronger at high volume than the Elacs. There's also the fact that having bought these new speakers, I I'm not really in the mood to spend even more on a power amp... and of course I'd want to spend enough to get something that would at least match or better than mojo that I'm already getting with the Marantz (but with more power of course!). A small upgrade though, like a speaker switch I can get with...
