ADCOM response - WOW!

Earlier this afternoon I emailed ADCOM with a problem regarding my GFT-1A tuner (the presets don't stick). It was just 20 minutes later I had a response. Yes, that's right, 20 minutes. I could not believe it- this is not even a current model.

Nice to see some companies take service very seriously.

Did they offer good, usable advice?

I asked a silly question to Harman's tech line - who's sig is on the "Signature" gear.

They also replied quickly.

"Dr. Sidney Harman", of course!

That's good to hear, there's something to be said for smaller companies when they support their products well. Both of these are US companies with US based support, right? I contacted a big multinational consumer electronics outfit for support on a cheap broken DVD player last year, I got <crickets> in response.

I had never seen Adcom gear until this week. I picked up Adcom units in 2 different thrift stores this week - a 575 CDP and a GFA 535 II amp. It's been a good week!

I've had good luck with them [Adcom] over the years. Back in 1989, I bought a new GFP-555 preamp, GFA-555 Amp, and GFT-55 Tuner (still have them all.) I've contacted them with some tech questions, request for service manual/schematics, and parts; it's been easy to get in touch with a live person. They changed ownership and moved to Arizona a few years ago, and I think some of the spare parts inventory for the really old stuff might have been tossed in the dumpster in NJ. But they have very nice trade in deals, not just for their stuff but other brands too (offered after they didn't have replacement volume pots for the preamp.)

Lately I've scored several other pieces on Ebay. Their gear holds its value well, but seems a bargain compared to when it was new. I just picked up a GDA-600 DAC (for the heck of it) and GFA-5200 amp for a new bedroom system I'm assembling.

Yes, the advice was usable. He pointed me to the battery, described its location and type I should get after consulting the schematic.
