Hi, I recently picked up a terrific pair of the Reference 3A MM deCapos. I'm pairing them right now with a Peachtree Decco 65 amp and they sound great, though a bit muddled/weak on the low end. I'm repairing an old Carver professional power amp (200 wpc) that I used to use with Martin Logan SL3s. The amp is being repaired so I can't try it right now, but do you all think that using it, with the Decco65 serving as a preamp, will add to speaker performance, maybe even the bass?
Re. the weak bass issue, I listen to lots of different music but really notice the difference compared to the SL3s when playing bass-heavy rock. Do other users add a subwoofer, or would a more powerful amp like the Carver help? What about tube amps, which I'll be thinking about in the future? All that said, I think the Reference 3A's are wonderful except the low end, and very efficient as well.
Thank you all for any thoughts and advice!
