Added a beautiful 400 to my Fisher Collection

It has been a long process searching for a Fisher 400 nice enough for me to add to my Fisher collection. This one is just crazy nice, it's by far the nicest one I have ever come across. It was robbed of its tubes before I found it, but new ones are already on their way. Thought I'd share my happiness with the Fisher forum, this sweet receiver will look swell along side my other Fishers. :thmbsp:

Ok, here are some inside shots, wow is this a very clean chassis. I don't see and sloppy work in here, but I don't know enough to tell if it's untouched.

The last person in there was the one who put the last QC stamp on it! Nice that the later version came with silicon installed in the heater/bias supply instead of selenium, too.

That is the very definition of time machine! Like all that room to work in too.

Thanks for the pictures. Look forward to more.

Nice 400 Steve, hows that Sansui 9090DB you just bought sounding? Your one lucky guy! Al

I'd like to think there is some skill involved to finding some of these gems :D, I have to admit that I have a network of friends and family that keep their eyes out for items such as these. But luck seems to come my way from time to time. :thmbsp:

I'm very much a restoration type person, cars, motorcycles, houses, electronics, and anything made of wood I enjoy bringing back to their glory.

I have yet to receive the Sansui 9090 yet, but it should arrive soon. It has been on my bucket list for quite a while, just like the Fisher 400.

It's funny, I prefer having my Fisher's in wood cases, but this 400 is so clean that it is worthy of showing off. :scratch2: Thanks for all the compliments everyone, it will be interesting to see how the 400 sounds compared to my other Fisher's.

The two tubes you do have in there are the two most critical tubes. All else is secondary. What a beauty.

Steve congrats for your fisher!!; what a beauty!!

Thanks, the new tubes are starting to arrive, once they are all here and installed, I'll bring her up slowly to see if everything works. Then off to rehab to be better than new. :thmbsp:

With great guidance from Dave G., I was able to power up and test the newly aquired Fisher 400. I used my DBT with the power tubes not installed, it was patched through my 1800 for testing purposes. After breaking two 6au6 tubes on V5 from a tube shield problem, I can now say all the new tubes are working fine. Turns out the attachment base for the one shield was bent too close to the side of the tube on one side, so when the shield was slid on, it made the base pinch the tube. I guess I learned something to remember in the future, pay attention to the shield catches, and how they center on the base.

The 400 pulls in stations very well, it will need alignment though since it is reading about 10 numbers off. Having all brand new tubes, the phono section also sounds very good. The main power tubes arrive today, I will test the amp circuit on the DBT also, checking for any abnormal tube temps. After all my testing is finished, it will be be put in line for all the usual modern safety upgrades and restoration work like my other Fisher's have had. I'm very pleased to have found this very nice 400, it is a great addition, and will look right at home alongside my other Fisher's. :thmbsp:
