TL/DR: Does the speaker in / speaker out on a modern sub affect the signal between the amp and speakers?
I've added subs to many vintage solid state amps via the 'speaker in / speaker out' jacks on the back of modern subs. I never had an issue with this at all. So maybe I've just answered my own question. But my amp is now quite a bit up scale from what I'm used to.
I'm running an MC240 McIntosh tube amp. As I'm passing speakers through the system, the best set I have heard, that I own, are Martin Logan Motion 16Ls. These are book shelf speakers so they need support on the bottom end. But their sound stage is far better than the Motion 12's and Motion 4's I own. Yes, I have a bit of a Motion addiction due to the tweeter. Yes, I should branch out again but I'm working with what I own.
Does the speaker in / speaker out on a modern sub affect the signal between the amp and speakers? Or does it just bleed off the sub signal in some way? I think it could use a small transformer but I've never pulled one apart. I want to add a sub to the system but I don't want to loose any of the tuby goodness.
