Didn't happen at my house. The 9090db was one of the better sounding receivers I ever owned and easily bested the 8 and the 8 deluxe that I had at the time.
In fact I have both. Amongst Eight, 7000, 9090. To be honest, its the 990DB I have.
The Eight Deluxe does sound more natural to me. Voices are a bit brighter and instruments seem to be slightly faster. Sound in general is rich and transparent. Having had the 990DB before the Deluxe I had the same opinion about it comparing her with a G7700. But then I got the Eight and the Eight Deluxe and it changed again. I hear more details and the stage seems to be better structured. Live concerts are more live. Its hard to express and may vary from room to room and speaker to speaker.
But I made these experiences with Tannoy D900, R90's, Focal Kit 600 and Epicure as well. Of course these are subjective impressions.
None of the receivers is recapped or modified.
Congrats on the Sansui scores. Will be interesting to hear you pick your favorite. I wish I did, probably good that I don't, have a Sansui store like that around the corner.
I can't speak for the integrateds (having heard no Sansui here) but can say that the 9090/9090db's are showing signs of getting "thin" out in the wild. Mine is amazing, trumps so many pieces it isn't funny, and seems to be at the top of the "One that got away list" in vintage audio. I'd see about definitely finding an Eight and the 9090 to compare....the Eight does seem to have something special going on too....never heard one here either. A smart purchase (combined with good cosmetics) is better than cash anyways.
