hi everyone, i was wondering if there is an easy way to adjust the treble and bass levels inside a harman kardon pm645 pre amp???
I find i have to keep bass knob almost all the way down and the treble all the way up.

I might as well be the first to ask.
1. What gear are you using?
2. What is the room like and how are your speakers set up?
3. What type of music are you playing and how loud..
4. What are you sourcing the music from LP, CD, MP3 files, FLAC or ALAC files?
Finally, have you had your hearing checked?

Whattt!?!? Haha, my hearing is fine(unless you ask my better-half)..haha.

14x14’ size room, speakers angled in. B&w towers.
I listen to a mix of rock, blues, classical.
I have the volume up to about 1/3 way up.
It’s really on this unit that i have to keep the bass down or it will kill the speakers. As for treble, on most units i keep it all the way up and often find it’s missing some more.

Have you turned off the loudness? IMO/E needing to turn the treble all the way up says several things, none very good. 1. You may have a tweeter problem. 2. Your room is severely overdamped. 3. Your gear may have a problem 4. You should get your hearing checked.

It could be all or none of those four things. However, if your gear is working properly needing to boost the treble all the way suggests a hearing problem.

OTOH you may just like excessive treble with little to no bass.:dunno:

Maybe it is my hearing? Every unit i’ve ever had, i’ve always had the treble to the max, and find myself wanting more. I do not use the “Loudness” feature on them.
So is there a way to adjust the levels?

I have always put serious effort into the space. Most every system I have ever had has run mostly flat even with EQ. I won’t be much help, but that much treble always ??

Inverse RIAA phono equalization.

You may also find that your anatomical hearing really is fine, but there's so much wax build-up that it's attentuating higher frequencies. I've known people who had the wax removed by a doctor and experienced a dramatic improvement in their hearing. Either way, it doesn't hurt to get checked out.

By turning the treble all the way up you've already adjusted the "level" as much as the device was designed to produce. I say again, "Please have your hearing checked".

Something is definitely not right. You shouldn't have to turn the treble up all the way to get the right sound. That is not normal at all. So it is either your ears or your speakers. The amp is already set up so that it will reproduce a flat sound curve. No adjustments are possible. What speakers?

What did you say??
