Admiral Console Stereo/Record player.

I recently took on a project. I have a working Admiral console stereo/record player.
So far from testing the unit the stereo is working, left and right sides sound very good. the radio also has the rectangular magic eye EM84/6FG6(working).
The dial needs restringing. What I am looking for is its model and yeah. Part of the tag on the is missing. I am hoping someone can help so i can get the correct replacement parts that need replacing. I would like to locate a service manual, and owners manual.

A quick poke at the Sams index shows a 9M1 and 9M1A as the only likely options. Looks like those are in Sams 668-A1 and 703-1B respectively. Maybe you can find a pic online of those folder covers to see if you can tell which yours has. I doubt I have them but they turn up on ebay pretty often.

I suspect its going to be the later one. The amp is in Sams 702-5 so it makes sense the tuner would be in the 703 more than the 668 folder.
 
I sent Sams an email to check as well. I want to make sure i get the correct manuals. I can't find an good enough pic to see if it matches mine.
The Amp Chassis No. is 3PA7B.


I also like to know what speakers they used, the speaker surprisingly are in very good shape. with a nice bottom end thump.
 
Took a shot at the 9M1 from Sams looks pretty good and included how to wind the turner string. Do any of you guys have a good source from locating a spool of turn string? I have a couple i need to do.

I haven't bought any of that in many years, but "dial cord" is the correct nomenclature when searching.

Thanks for the AMP pic nice to see it, as i have yet to dice into it, I know it has 2 6BQ5/EL84 tubes1 12ax7 and a 6CA4 EZ81.
I would like to put in better tubes any suggestions? JJ's, McIntosh, mullard's ? Svetlana's winged C's Suggestions are much appreciated.

If it were me I'd test the original tubes first and if they test well leave as is until you get the amp running as intended to and decide if you like the amps sonic characteristics befor shelling out good money for Mullards for example.

As to are they worse then the ones you mentioned that's very debatable

Almost positive McIntosh didn't manufacture tubes, they just had their name branded on them by the manufacturer they purchased them from.

^ Also if the original tubes say Admiral on them just know they were not in the business of manufacturing tubes similar to what I noted about McIntosh, they could be some really nice tubes from entities such as Amperex

If you want to know what you actually have take some good pics of the tubes and I and or others can tell you what you have.

Thank you for the awesome advise on the tubes. The more I had thought about it, and reading your guys advise i plan on sticking with what is in there.
Right now I have another project on the bench I am working on, a Pioneer SX 1000TW.

The tuner chassis is 9M1A, the amp chassis is 3PA7B.

Model: Y6141 Year: 1963. Am/Fm chassis: 9M1A. Amplifier chassis: 3PA7B My parents bought this brand new for 350.00! I just was looking for info when I found this site, hope this helps! I do have the original owners manual and sales receipt!

Thank You, it does sound great! Everything still works, even the turntable! I just refinished the top, the rest is untouched, it was placed near a window for about 40 years!
