Just saw their show in a little 300 seater right in my neighbourhood just 5 minutes from my house. I have to say this was the bestshow I've seen in a while. I've seen Adrian before but these kids-brother and sister-that he poached from the(real)school of rock are over the top!!So much talent. A great night. Adrian actually came up to us while we were outside and chatted us up for a minute then said he had to grab a shower but would see us inside.
Interesting crowd. There were kids from his NIN association, some others from King Crimson and some, like me, just long time fans from his whole career. Everyone was very cool. I met some people who actually came all the way from Ohio to see the show!!
Great setlist. Started with Big electric cat and ended the show with Three of a perfect pair.
On the downside, I don't know how he can tour and play such a small venue to 200 fans and make it worthwhile. I estimate the room was 2/3rds full- only about 200 people. I just hope he comes back soon. 30 bucks for that kind of show is highway robbery.Any way, I'm sending this from my blackberry so forgive the "stream of conscience" kind of review, but I strongly suggest anyone to go see the show and any of you Toronto based AK'ers to keep an eye on his tour schedule for his next visit. Not to be missed!!

Belew has been a fave of mine from the beginning..first saw him perform (on numerous occasions) with Talking Heads along with another then new member..Jerry Harrison...man, what a killer band....the Belew/ Fripp/ Levin, Bruford iteration of King Crimson, is IMHO, the most talented rock group ever, and I don't say that frivolously...

Eric Slick and his sister are stunning..to have those kind of chops and musical professionalism at their tender ages...damn...

Eric Slick is also currently splitting time performing with some long time friends of mine..see the current thread "Prog Supergroup in DC area"..and thanks for giving props to the remarkable Adrian Belew and his latest, brilliant effort..:thmbsp:
 
Adrian is awesome!! I saw him in a solo show about 10 years ago and he kicked A$$ on electric & acoustic all night at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn IL!! After the show only a couple dozen people were left he sat at the bar with us and talked and drank Samual Adams pints for about an hour. One of the nicest guys you can ever meet. I have attended all KC tours since 1981's Discipline. My real love for KC though is the 73-74 band which I saw them 4 times. Yeah you can say I'm a Crimhead!!! :yes:

My first Crimson tour was their first, and I've not missed an opportunity to see them since, that I could help..and yes indeed, Adrian Belew is very much everday people, and a man willing to share his expansive experiences on the sharp end of the progressive rock world...he holds youth seminars for young guitarists, and was just amazing with my son, as well as all attendees..what a guy!!

Did you happen to catch Adrian with Talking Heads? soooooo good :yes::music:
 
Remain In Light and Discipline are two of my test albums for audio equipment.

BUT remember Sheik Yerbouti too...

When I heard Belew was going to share the stage with Primus a few years ago, I tried and tried to organize a trip from Istanbul to Memphis but couldn't: I was in the middle of a project. That's one of my biggest regrets.

Belew and Claypool on the same stage...two of the true innovators and pioneers in extracting new sounds from their respective instruments...not to mention ultra world class players..damn how did I not hear about that one...:scratch2:
 
Copy that, aaquaa! All his work with Frank is outstanding.Frank always had a keen eye for raw talent-just look at all the artists he "found". Any of Adrian playing on the Zappa stuff is over the top.I love the baby snakes dvd with adrian singing "city of tiny lites"
 
...And "Flakes", with Adrian doing a Bob Dylan impersonation. :)

Well, his first audition with Zappa turned out disastrous. But he summoned up the courage to tell Frank to move to somewhere nice and quiet, so he could show what he really got. With a very unusual reaction for the pompous prick he was, Zappa complied. (I guess there already was some sort of "love at first sight" going on.)

The rest is history - Zappa coined the nickname "the Guitar Rhinoceros" for Belew. :)
 
Don't know much about this guy and never knew he spent time with King Crimsom in the latel years. Dug through my collection and found his Inner Revolution CD. Not sure how this one rates, but I'll be giving it a spin. My older brother had all the original KC stuff before Adrian Belew, and recall it being very good.

Inner Revolution is my favorite Belew solo LP. He really wrote some nice music on that record, the title cut kicks butt!! :thmbsp:

Hey knee!! Sorry I missed this entry the other day. Which version of KC did you see first? I saw KC about 3 years ago they were awesome but I really missed Bruford. Mastelotto is excellent, but Bruford patented the KC sound with his incredible drum patterns. It's nice to meet people that are like-minded. I can see your not the type to sit around and watch The American Idol Crapola!! Cheers, CB
 
Gave Inner Revolution a spin today, and have to say this guy is all over the place in terms of both musical influence and production quality. One minute I'm thinking Gentle Giant and the next Beatles, Abby Road. Since Adrian himself produced this recording, thinking the garage band sound on some of this, is no accident. I'll have to spin it a few more time's and maybe check out more of his stuff. Pretty cool.
 
I love Belew, and just missed his Power Trio show in KC recently - damn.

I did see him with Fripp (Belew played drums) opening for Porcupine Tree a few years back - did a decent job on the skins!! As it happens, Belew plays lead on two Porcupine Tree tracks from the album Deadwing - tasty jams.

I love what Belew did with The Bears and his solo Twang Bar King - as well as the Zappa stuff.

Someone mentioned Claypool, if you haven't heard it - check out Oysterhead "The Grand Pecking Order" - it's Claypool, Trey Anastasio and Stewart Copeland - a one off project from around 2002 - some really cool tunage.

You hit the nail on the head with Gentle Giant / Beatlesque thing going on. His Lone Rhino LP is good too!
