ADS 570/2's...wow

Yep, these are very nice speakers. First pic attached shows the angled cabinet corners (mine are oak, dated 1987), and second pic shows close-up of crossover. Looks like the black 18uF cap is electrolytic, but I believe the blue ADS cap is a film cap. What's that little disc cap all about? Anyone have a schematic?

The black is the electrolytic, the blue is the film. The black one you can change. You can change out the blue one too but you may not like the result unless the cap's ESR is identical to the one you took out. If it is less, you will hear it and you may not like it.

The yellow disc is a polyswitch. It is there to protect the tweeter. When you overdrive the tweeter it will cutout. Turn down the volume but do not turn completely off. In 15-20 seconds it will come back on.

Upon further review...I'll leave them as is. Besides the one scratch they are pretty sweet looking and I don't want to make a big mess for myself. If there is a way to deal with the scratch alone (damp cloth ironed ?) I might consider it. I built some taller (20" total) stands for them last night and that helped a bit more by getting the tweeters to ear height. I really appreciate all the input guys it's what makes AK such a great site!

New to the ADS club too. just bought a pair of L880's. They are awesome ( after I switched off the treble boost). I am loving music again.

Like I mentioned, the labels on my woofers are dated from August 1987. Your speakers look great with that Yamaha w/wood case.
Soundmotor, thx for the tip on the tweeter switch. Good to know - - I would've never figured that out - - those a/d/s engineers were very clever.

Congrats! I startedmy ADSjourney with the 570 which isan excellent speaker. I was lucky enough toget a pair of 980, then 780, two pairs of 1290, 1090, 1530 and 910.
Eventually Ihd to downsize and keep the 1090 and 1290 as well as a beautiful pair of L9e which I found at a GW store...
Enjoy!

A previous poster mentions leaving the grills in place but after some extended listening with and without the grills I feel the sound is just a bit clearer without them. I know the sticky tweeters are dust magnets so I was wondering if there is an easy method for cleaning them? The grills are just too cumbersome to put on and off daily not to mention this would get them out of shape rather quickly so that is not an option, thoughts?

I have seen it mentioned that you might be able to very very gently clean them off with a brush and the woofer sealant that vintage-AR sells on e- b a y. Its basically the same stuff.
