I have been lucky enough to find a pair of ADS speakers on consecutive weekends while garage saling. It’s a carnival of riches out there.
The first pair are model 710, serial numbers 16xxx. The other are L710, serial 26xxx. They are shaped, grilled, and mounted identically except the L’s have fuse protection. Is that the only difference? Do the 710 possibly have made in Germany Braun drivers? I think I read that ADS drivers were eventually made in the USA. I might be wrong on that.
Listening to them, the sound is virtually identical. The L710 have slightly bigger bass, with mids and uppers sounding a bit more open, but a bit shallow, compared to the 710. My initial preference is to lean toward the 710’s. I have read the only knock on the L710 is a slight lack of imaging. Might the 710 be known to image better?
I can, sadly, always find room to keep one pair of every different model of speaker I find, but these are too similar to keep both. Any opinions or insights are welcome.
