I have an opportunity to pick up a pair of these with apparently the original stands. He says the speakers are in excellent condition which to me means pretty much nothing until I see them. He is asking $600 or BO. I'm not into buying to re-sell so I would only want them if I were going to replace the 810's that I just picked up which are the "rare and highly sought after white cabinets." What will the 910's do for me that the 810's won't and what is a fair price for the 910's today?

BTW, I have $250 into the 810's and an reasonably happy with them, I did make new cloth grills and recapped with Solens. So to me to spend another $350 the 910's would have to be a pretty significant step up.

BTW, my 810's do have the original stands too, so if I were to sell them I would hope to recapture my original investment.

If the 910's are in good shape and fully functional you would have a opportunity not to pass up. The 910's are in a whole other league in comparison to the 810's. Go see for yourself.

Those 910's have been for sale off and on for a year or more at that price. Given the pics supplied in the past, I'd be really surprised if they're in excellent condition.
 
I sent him an email asking for higher res pics of the speakers and the stands but no response yet. I agree the pics he has don't appear "excellent" at all, which may in part explain why he is still sitting on them.

IF the cabs need refinishing.......as most 910's will these days, and the speakers function as they should. $600 is in the ballpark.

They used a urethane based finish on these, it sands off very easily. The veneer is fairly thick. I had to refinish my pair, and the $600 purchase was money well spent, even though I had to chase down one new midrange driver also.

These speakers are not small, and they will make an impression in your room, not only with how nice they look when refinished, but the sound!

I have my 910's matched up with a Sansui G-22000. These two have great synergy together and spinning the vinyl is a real treat.

I went to check them out. I'm not sure where to begin, it was so pathetic it would take a a short story to cover it all. How someone can ruin a obviously really great speaker by throwing them in his garage along with all the other junk that doesn't work.

Bottom line is in spite the terrible situation and condition of them I could still tell they had been a really nice speaker prior to their abuse. To be safe I would have to assume only the woofers are salvageable. One tweeter and one mid-range were obviously shot with broken outside voice-coil wires. The other two may work but the lead wires were clearly flattened and stressed at their connection points. He quickly began to drop his cost but there was just too much wrong to adequately do a through test. But I figured I'd be getting the cabs., stands and woofers and xovers but the rest was a gamble at best. It would definitely be a project but if the tweeters and midranges could be replaced reasonably I might give it a go.

BTW, there was no light in his garage-we used a flashlight!

ahhh, that's too bad. Offer him $100 and make a long-term project.....or part them and make some $$$$. There are folks with these who would like spare xovers, etc.

Yep - a good resto project. You'd get your money back if you ever sold them.

$100 cash in hand and he might bite.
 
Just to bring this thread to a close. I did offer him $150 but than I came across a Far Far better deal and quickly retracted before he responded. Those would have been truely a long term project. And since I live in a house built in 1940 I really didn't need another long term project.
