picked up a pair of ADS 400 speakers at GW a little while ago,but they lack the original woofers. What is in there, are some silver/white poly cone woofers, with rubber surrounds.the numbers on the woofers are: GW S650/4.These appear to be 4 ohm speakers. Are they a suitable replacement for the originals?

Those are Goldwood woofers and should suffice until you can find some originals. The older L400's (cloth grill, ~17" high cabinet) were rated at 6Ω nominal, 4Ω minimum. How do they sound?

Dave

The original woofers were paper coned with butyl surround, rated at 4Ω. I believe the correct part number is 206-0387.

Actually, they sound good, but the woofers are smaller than what is called for.Guess I will be hunting for some woofers. :)

I have an older style set of L400 w/ foam surrounds???
Yep, seen 'em that way too! I had a set of L700's with butyl surrounds, but I've also seen them with foam. I'm not entirely sure when they switched over to rubber surrounds, so I'm sure there was a transitional period.
