ADS i620 question

Hello.

I just purchased a set of ads i620s. I am running them through a Marantz 2270. One of the 10" drivers seem to click when pushed a little so I decided to pull it out. One of the previous owners "dynamated" the back of the driver. The encloser is completely stuffed with insulation. Any benefits to these things? I'm concerned I'm not hearing how these should sound. Any insight from ADS owners would be appreciated.

ADS stuffed the enclosures full with fiberglass insulation, so that's original. I wouldn't think that damping the steel basket would be a bad thing, but it's not original. I would leave it.
 
Regarding the click, I would guess it's the voice rubbing in the bore due to gravity sag. Try pulling it out, rotating it 180 degrees, and putting it back in. Regarding the dynamat, I'd look inside the other speaker just to make sure it was 'treated' to match. If not, pull the dynamat out of the first one.
 
dynamat takes the ringing of the basket away...just as long as it isn't touching the driver leave it in, i do it to all my speakers...

Thank you for the advice. After listening to some lighter content with more dynamics, I was pretty impressed with the speakers. I guess they just won't be a loud banging speaker like my JBL L100s were. Perhaps the Marantz is not a good match for the ADS.:blah:

I think it has a lot more to do with your desire to have a loud banging speaker, not the match between the ads and marantz. They are different sounding speakers. Some must have loud and banging, others would leave the room. That is why there is no consensus on what speaker is best.
 
I had some L620's for a while. I found them to be a very refined sound. It doesn't grab you by the cojones like some rock-n-rollers will. But, the trade off is less listener fatigue and longer listening sessions. They mate very well with Jazz. Get them off the floor with some sturdy stands for better bass response. Those tweeters are something special even if ADS refined the design later down the road, still great. Only reason I sold mine was too many speakers not getting used and I had some esoteric AudioAnalyst speakers the really were better all around, but it was a close call.
