Ads l1290 vs m15

I have been looking for a set of ADS L1290 Speakers to match up with my Luxman R-117 for a while and not much in the Chicago area. I have read a lot about how good the 1290s are so it seems they are a good bang for your buck and keepers for most people. I have run across someone selling the ADS M15s and really do not know much about them. It seems as though the cabinets are the same as the 1290s but the drivers all seem to be different, especially the midrange and tweeter. Everyone on here has always been very helpful with more knowledge on these speakers than me. Any opinions on the M15 compared to the L1290, there is also a set of L910s for sale locally but I prefer the towers? Also what would be a good price for the M15s in good condition. I will be using these to replace my Dahlquist DQM-9c speakers as they never seemed to be a great match with the R-117 although they sound good I prefer a larger speaker. Thanks for all your opinions.

Lots of people poo poo the M series from a/d/s. I have the M12 and think they sound just fine. The M15 is a bigger model. I think retail for the 12 was around 2k, the 15 would have been more. My advice, get what you can now or regret it. Finding things now is very difficult. Good luck with your decisions.

If I were going to live with some temporary speakers until my dream speakers came along, I would happily live with the L910's over the M15. I like your receiver, by the way (see signature).

Speaking of a/d/s, I have a bunch of the 80's and early 90's car audio gear. I'm using some of it and hoarding the rest! I love their stuff.

Early M15s had a design flaw in the crossover. Most have been retrofitted (and under warranty) by a/d/s/. The updated M15/20 models rectified this before shipping.

The M12/20 and M15/20 are argued by some to be a mild improvement over the L1290/L1590 series. Despite the loss of that wonderful dome midrange (more expensive to produce than a cone midrange), nonetheless they are rumored to have benefitted by this switch to a cone driver in overall performance.

Note the M12/15 are a 4 ohm load.
